CGC Unboxing: It’s no joke, the Venom luck continues

I think I’m getting a little too excited doing these unboxings! But I’m getting ahead of myself, and you’ll have to wait until the end to see the drama! This is the 10th unboxing from the grading service Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) as I set up to sell off my comic book collection to help pay for tuition now that I have two sons in college.

Nothing came in under a 9.0 in this batch. I think that may have fueled my fire (again, a bit of foreshadowing), since I’ve been having mixed results on my journey so far.

((IMPORTANT: I do NOT know the grades of these books before I open them. Yes, I know you can look on the CGC website and find out, but I DO NOT LOOK!))

Top of the box was Batman: The Killing Joke, which tells the tragedy of Barbara Gordon at the hands of the Joker. I remember this book troubled me something fierce when I first read it as a wee lad. Who didn’t have a little crush on Batgirl, and to see her crippled was heartbreaking. That grading was a little disappointing.

Next came Venom’s very first title, Venom: Lethal Protector #1. I have the entire series but chose to grade only the first one. This box had two more Venom-related issues, which all came in with great grades! And this is where I think I lost it! Maybe a little too much venom (small “V” intended) fueling my comic-book-loving, CGC-grading frenzy. Oh LORD!!
